Ups and Downs that “Make” Custom Quilting – CLASS FULL

In this class Marie will show you how to make some designs “puff up” and get attention, when it’s really other designs that “get down” and do all the work. You’ll get the “Low Down” on combining designs using crop, transform and repeat. Use rotate and get the upside right. Select and move areas to get designs quilted “down” with precise positioning. Make sure you are “UP” on the latest tools like only an educator would know.

Mary Beth will show you how to create fantastic block designs in Art and Stitch even if you can’t draw. Using the Magic square tool is fun and easy and lets you create custom designs for your quilts. Learn all the ins and outs and start making one of a kind designs using simple doodles! You will need a laptop computer with Art and Stitch Version 4.1 loaded. Trial available at www.artandstitch.tv/update.html. Important note: Trial version is just fine for class. You do NOT need an activated version to participate. This class covers mounting and floating, squaring off a quilt so that it is square every time, regardless of how “not so square” it may have been when it arrived. She will show ways of manipulating fabric on those not so perfect tops to make them lay flat without causing pucker or pleat or stress. She will share her tips on getting perfect tension with every type of thread on every machine brand. Using the right size needle for the thread and fabric you are working with. Using 3 degrees of texture to achieve the perfect look for every quilt: make your borders look like they were quilted with no stop and starts without ever turning your quilt, and so much more. Sketchbook Quilting

Sketchbook Quilting is what Sarah calls her approachable, uninhibited style of free-motion quilting, for which she has been commissioned by clients across the globe – the farthest away being in Japan! In this lecture-demo, you will become more comfortable with drawing your own style of free-motion designs. You’ll turn these designs into multiple groupings and combinations by building off the foundation pieces Sarah will teach. In doing so, you’ll create your own set of personal “go to” designs, practice fillers, and develop the muscle memory of drawing the doodles. Everyone will have the opportunity for hands-on time on either the Sweet Sixteen and/or Simply Sixteen to practice transferring the sketchbook doodles to the quilt top. You’ll also use a variety of rulers and stencils within the class to help create basic shape and line guides for the doodling. This class will teach and encourage you to quilt without rules, thus making each finished quilt unique to your personal style and abilities. Design and Quilt a Mini Whole Cloth (2 part class)

Triple the Fun 101

In this two-part class, you will become more comfortable integrating Pro-Stitcher designs, ruler work, and custom FMQ on one project. Sarah will provide each student a pre-made mini quilt top for your own customization. During this lecture/demo, she will use her Starblazer Mini Pattern, which has been shown at Quilt Con and in Modern Quilts Unlimited magazine (Issue 18), as the perfect foundation to get creative will all three quilting techniques. Look up and follow Sarah's quilting online: www.sariditty.com. Sarah will start this Part 1 class with designing in simulation mode and stitching out a demo, and then follow up in the hands-on class to stitch out your own unique masterpiece, which you will be able to take home. You will receive the knowledge and tools to customize and transform your designs by using Pro-Stitcher to crop, rotate, resize, repeat, rubber band area, and reposition. Learn how to create your own modern or traditional style by using echo lines, dense or loose fills, various shapes, and different threads to compliment your quilt.
