It’s back to school time across the US. The kids are excited about meeting their new teachers. The stores have sales on paper and pencils and crayons. And it’s time for the quilters to think about learning something new to boost their quilting skills. This time of year, life falls into a steady routine, allowing us more time to devote to what we love best: Quilting! “But where can I find a place to increase my quilting knowledge”, you ask?  There are so many opportunities!

  1. In-store events with Handi Quilter educators

There are 24 talented HQ National Educators who travel the world teaching and sharing the joys of longarm quilting. There are lecture/demo and workshop classes going on throughout the US every week. To be in the know about upcoming in-store events near you, subscribe to our news letter. Go  here and click on “email newsletter” to sign up.  If your local HQ retailer has an email newsletter you’ll want to get on that mailing list as well. A complete list of events can be found here. The classes are on a variety of quilting topics such as Ruler work, Threads, Needles, Tension, Feathers, Micro-quilting, Pro-Stitcher, just to name a few.

2. Handi Quilter University Retreats in Salt Lake City, UT

Handi Quilter hosts educational retreats several times throughout the year. The retreats are 2 and 1/2 days of quilting fun in the education studio at our facilities in Salt Lake City, UT. There is one student per  machine during the hands-on classes. The four talented studio educators are there to help and teach you, led by Education Coordinator, Vicki Hoth. It will be the best vacation you ever take! Learn more about our retreats here.

3. Handi Quilter Academy

Handi Quilter Academy is held once a year in late spring and is the premier longarm quilting education event. Each year Academy gets bigger and better. In 2017 there were over 60 class offerings, including 27 hands-on classes presented by HQ studio educators, HQ  field educators and HQ ambassadors. Students were able to choose up to 18 hours of instruction from the wide variety of class offerings, for stand-up quilters, sit-down quilters, Pro-Stitcher quilters, and Art and Stitch designers.  Another option is to take an optional full-day Bootcamp class before the official start of Academy. Bootcamp is a wonderful jump-start for new quilters and a great refresher for experienced quilters, to be ready to get the most from their Academy class selections. The atmosphere at Academy is energizing and fun. Be ready for lots of prizes and swag and snacks! Read about the 2017 Academy here.

Registration for the 2018 Handi Quilter Academy will open about the beginning of November. To learn more, “Like” the Handi Quilter Facebook page or join the HQ Academy Facebook group.

3. Handi Quilter LIVE!

The second Thursday of each month at 11am Mountain time Handi Quilter presents a live event from the studio in Salt Lake City on various quilty topics. The studio educators and their guests share their knowledge and ideas. While you watch live you can comment or ask questions which will be answered by the presenters. Or you can watch anytime after the presentation. Watch the archived HQ-Live events here. It’s like having a class in your own home that you can watch over and over again!

4. Minute Motif

Once a week Handi Quilter posts a Minute Motif, a continuous line quilting design, that you can add to your quilting design stash. You can see them and download them here.

5. Videos

The Handi Quilter website has hundreds of videos to help you get the most from your HQ machine. Watch them here.

As you can see, Handi Quilter is dedicated to education. We want to help our machine owners finish more quilts. So these 5 resources ought to keep you busy, inspired, learning and finishing more quilts!
