If You Give a Quilter A Scrap

A charming story, or could it be true?

By Shelly Coddington, Willow Spring, NC

If you give a quilter a fabric scrap – she will take it to her stash
to see if there is anything she can match it up with;
There she will see a bolt out of place and decide to rearrange her fabrics;
While organizing her fabrics she will discover a book on the floor of brand new quilt blocks;
While leafing through the book she will step on a pin in the carpet;
Putting the pin in the trash she will see a receipt for thread that has now become invisible;
While searching for the thread she trips over a ruler she thought was lost;
While putting the broken ruler on her cutting mat she realizes she needs a new blade in her rotary cutter;
Installing the new blade she nicks her finger and has to find a band-aid;
While in the bathroom she discovers she is covered in threads and goes to find a lint roller;
While rolling the threads from her clothes she hears her cell phone rings to tell her about a sale at the quilt shop!
She jumps into her car and backs into oncoming traffic the wrong way;
Reaching the quilt store she tackles the sales table and comes up with 49 fat quarters for her stash;
Upon returning home she tries to place the fats onto her shelves and discovers:  a quilt room in shambles, blood on the cutting table, a broken ruler, the cat with the missing thread, she is covered in thread and limping from the pin;  but she is satisfied and goes to bed happily ever after……..

    Sounds like it could have come from the classic children’s book, “If you give a moose a muffin”. Love it!

    Is there any other way?????
    And why are quilting rooms and storage space never large enough?
    It really isn’t our fault 😉

    When I stepped on a needle that embedded itself, the doctor said it would be easier to pull the needle through the top of my foot. Had 3 stitches and could not drive for 2 weeks. Had to stay home to play with my scraps and look at quilt magazines . A positive out of a negative situation . So I can relate to this in many other ways, just thankful my husband didn’t step on the needle.

    I can relate to this story. Do I need medication or more fabric?
