Longarm Basic January 31 – February 2, 2018

Each student in the Longarm Basics class will have her or his own HQ Amara longarm machine for these hands-on classes.

The Basics

Topics covered will include the proper maintenance of the machine, software, threading, and loading of a quilt.


In-depth instruction for correct top thread and bobbin tension adjustment.


Learn the theory of Thread, Needles and Tension adjustment using a variety of threads including cotton, polyester, metallic, and monofilament.


Master the correct placement of the laser light, proper size for throat space, setting up an edge-to-edge pantograph, proper advancing and cropping. Experience the ease of using Groovy Boards.


Leave this class feeling confident in the safe use of rulers, including straight-line rulers, circles, curves, and waves, and their uses on quilt blocks.

Freehand Designs

Learn how to take any shape or design and create a continuous travel path to stitch an edge-to-edge design, blocks, or borders. Learn how to use HQ Micro-Handles to stitch beautiful micro-quilting designs. Anything you stitch large can be stitched small to create a masterpiece.
